Photographer
Hello, I’m Nicole Roberts, a devoted photographer drawn to capturing the essence of individuals and the beauty that surrounds us. My photographic journey started with my father’s Pentax film camera, unlocking a passion for visual storytelling and artistry. Formally educated at University of Oregon, Oregon State, Cañada College and San Jose State, I refined my skills and developed a unique perspective, later earning the privilege of being the sole student entrusted with a key to the private darkroom on campus. Despite facing challenges, including the censoring of a black and white nude series, my commitment to authentic expression deepened.
During my formative years, I assisted renowned photographers like John Brennan, Hugh Harline, Mel Lindstrom, Glen Matsmera, and Edward Richardson of Sheldon Photography, expanding my horizons in professional photography. Having traveled to 17 countries, camera in hand, I’ve seized moments and opportunities to capture the authenticity of dancers, artists, and diverse individuals. For me, a portrait is a profound gift—an opportunity to reveal my perspective and, equally important, to discover the subject’s self-perception, resulting in deeper, more profound imagery.
My preferred subjects include dancers and LGBTQ+ individuals, embracing the collaborative and authentic portrait experience. While I cherish the dynamism of natural light, I’m equally captivated by the allure of darker settings and the artistic control provided by a studio environment. Thrilled to offer studio portraiture, interiors, and food photography from my downtown loft in vibrant San Diego, I eagerly anticipate collaborating with you to capture beautiful imagery and spirit through my lens.
